What is Conscious sedation?
Conscious sedation is a technique where a patient undergo drug induced sedation but patient is conscious enough to breathe by themselves and respond to light and sound stimuli.
This makes the child cooperative and procedure becomes easier.
Why conscious sedation is needed?
Dental procedures are often stressful situation for a child. Conscious sedation will allow the child to become cooperative. With a calm child during the procedure, the precision of the procedure increases and chances of injury or accident reduces.
Indication? Who should go for sedation?
- Very uncooperative child
- Too young child
- Child with special needs
- Very anxious adults fearful to proceed any dental procedure
TECHNIQUE
Nitrous oxide/ oxygen is the most common sedative used in conscious sedation.
Procedure involves inhalation from mask nitrous oxide and oxygen and along with behaviour management treatment is started.
