This is a condition of the hip where the femoral head gradually displaces from its position. The cause is still unknown, but in majority of cases it is common in tall, obese patient. Various endocrinopathy like hypothyroidism are associated with this condition.
It presents with painful limp where the leg is turn outward while walking.
It is divided into mild, moderate and severe based on the degree of displacement . If the child is able to walk then it is known as stable and if not able to walk then known as unstable.
Treatment – the principle of treatment is based on prevention of the avascular necrosis of femoral head, which is a catastrophic complication causing permanent disability.
In-situ screw fixation- fixation of the capital physis with a screw without reduction is the modality of treatment for mild to moderated case

Mod Dunn’s Osteotomy– In severe SCFE realignment osteotomy is performed.
