Oral Habits Correction

Many of the childhood habits have to be corrected carefully. Most of them are subconscious. These habits MUST not be corrected by punishment. Consult your paediatric dentist for proper opinion.

Common oral habits seen and corrected by paediatric dentist are—-

Thumb sucking – Children with severe thumb sucking habits must be treated at correct time before it starts hampering the jaws.

Tongue thrusting – Continuous tongue thrusting can bring the permanent teeth forward. It needs correction with habit breaking appliance to prevent the front teeth protruding forward

Mouth breathing – this is diagnosed when the child sleeps with mouth open.

Night Grinding – Grinding the teeth at night is common habit seen in children. Correction of them are necessary to prevent early damage of teeth.

Lip and Nail biting – It can cause trauma to the children. Lip bumpers are used to cover the lip.
