Bone cysts are generally two types Simple bone cyst (SBC) and Aneurysmal Bone cyst (ABC). As the name suggested SBC are milder variety where the bone cyst cavity is filled serous fluid. This has less chance of recurrence.

ABC on the other hand, has blood filled cavity, it has a grave prognosis and chances of recurrence is higher.

The cause is unknown.

The treatment for SBC is based on drainage principle, where a simple TENS nail is inserted so the cavity keeps on draining. In ABC, the treatment required is extended curettage with bone graft.

Use of sclerosant (polidocanol) injection has also been used with various success.
